Refugio County Jail Policies and Procedures
Intake Procedures
The jail intake process at the Refugio County Jail takes you through the following steps:
You will be placed in a waiting area or cell. If the jail is really busy, you will have to wait a while to get processed.
First you must answer some questions, like what is your full legal name, home address, date of birth and an emergency contact, and they’ll also ask about your medical and mental history. Next, you’ll be given an inmate ID number and your fingerprints will be taken. Then, all of your personal property will be taken away from you and stored until you get discharged from jail.
You will then be allowed to make a telephone call so you can call family, friends, or loved one.
If they expect that you will make bail and be released quickly, you might be allowed to keep wearing street clothes, but if you are not expected to make bail quickly you you will have to wear a jail issued jumpsuit.
Discharge Procedures
When you pay your bail, you will be allowed to leave jail. Getting discharged from jail may take anywhere between 15 minutes to many hours. In simple terms, the faster bail is posted, the quicker you will get discharged. Also, it might depend on if you have a cash bond or if a judge needs to decide on the amount of bail to be set. For lesser charges, you will simply be booked and then released on your recognizance without having to pay bail. When you have served your sentence and have a release date, expect to get discharged in the morning.
