Dewey County Jail Policies and Procedures
Intake Procedures
The intake procedure at the Dewey County Jail takes you through each of these steps:
You will get put in a holding cell. If the jail is busy, you will have to wait, sometimes for many hours, before you get processed.
The first thing you will have to to is you will answer some basic questions, like what is your full legal name, home address, date of birth and an emergency contact, and they’ll also ask about your medical and psychological history. Next, you will be issued an inmate ID number and you will be fingerprinted. Then, any personal property you have will be taken away from you and will be stored until you are released.
You will then be allowed to use the phone so you can talk to family, friends, or loved one.
If they expect that you will make bail and be released quickly, you will be allowed to keep wearing your own clothes, if not you you will be given a jumpsuit.
Discharge Procedures
Once you are able to post bail, you will be allowed to leave jail. This process will take from 15 minutes to hours or even all day long. In other words the faster you can pay your bail, the sooner you can get released from jail. Also, how fast you get released might depend on whether you’ve got a bond amount or if a judge needs to decide on how much your bail will be. For minor charges, you will be booked and get released without having to post bail. If you have served a sentence in jail and know the discharge date, plan to get discharged in the morning.
